• Despite decades of progress, around 700 million people worldwide still live in extreme poverty, subsisting on less than $2.15 per day.

• The COVID-19 pandemic and other crises have caused setbacks in poverty reduction, making it unlikely that the global goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030 will be met.

• Poverty is concentrated in least developed countries, conflict-affected areas, and remote rural regions.

• Children are disproportionately affected by poverty, with more than half of those living in extreme poverty being children.
