We do not trust individuals not to scam the less fortunate.

We do not trust the Chinese to use AI for the benefit of mankind.

Trust in institutions that act as guarantors of trust, such as market incentives, law, government, and media, is deteriorating.

We do not trust the institutions that ensure that we will act in good faith.

Furthermore, our current institutions, such as law, only apply to humans and can only apply to agents indirectly through humans.

We need new institutions that guarantee trust. An institution that can apply to humans and computers at the same time.

This is the role of blockchain, a human<>computer guarantor of trust.

By examining creatures from prehistoric cave depictions to modern cinematic beasts, Lawrence illustrates that these entities embody societal tensions and help us navigate the complexities of human existence.
