Farcaster

to be clear I'm casting this because I love Farcaster (the protocol), and I chose to build here because I want a decentralized social protocol to succeed. I've been disagreeing with the way Merkle has been making decisions for over a year with real arguments not just with slightly mean memes

My take on this line of criticism:

More devs care about users than they do about decentralization. Most users care about use cases more than decentralization. Decentralization is better for developers and users than centralization in the long run. 

Farcaster is sufficiently decentralized that developers can use it without permission from Merkle. In the long run I have trust in the team to decentralize it as much as needed but agree to prioritize getting users over decentralization in practice or in optics as next area of focus.

Get initial users ✅.

So get it sufficiently decentralized ✅.

Get users. ☑️ (You are here)

Make sure there is still sufficient decentralization with more users. ☑️

Get more users ☑️. 

Etc…
