The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa in Indonesia was one of the most violent volcanic events in recorded history. The sound of the eruption was so loud π that it was heard as far as 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometers) away. This catastrophic event caused massive tsunamis and led to significant global climatic changes, including a drop in temperatures and vivid sunsets for years afterwards.
