🇺🇦 Bilhorod-Dniester, or Akkerman fortress, is an architectural monument of national significance of the 13th-18th centuries, located on the rocky shore of the Dniester estuary. It is one of the best-preserved fortresses in Ukraine and the largest in Eastern Europe, with an area of ​​more than 9 hectares and a wall perimeter of more than 2.5 km.
The fortress, which was formed in the XIV-XV centuries, belongs to the tower-wall type and consists of four parts: the citadel, the northern (garrison), southern and port yards. The base is the citadel - the most fortified part, built by the Genoese, with four towers, of which only one is half-ruined. 
A special feature of the Akkerman fortress is that the remains of the ancient city of Tira (end of the 6th cent.BC - 4th cent. AD) and medieval Belgorod are located on the same site. The cultures and traditions of many peoples inhabiting Eastern Europe are intertwined here. It has always been an important trade, craft and cultural center.
