OP chains are categorized into three ways based on their configuration as specified in the Superchain Registry. 🟢 Green: This chain fully meets the Standard Rollup Charter, is on the latest governance-approved OP Stack version, and the Optimism Security Council manages its bridge upgradability. 🟡Yellow: This chain has a Standard configuration but is still finishing final upgrades or Security Council migration. ⚫ Gray: An OP Stack chain on an older version or one that deviates from the standard config but still supports the ecosystem and contributes revenue.

A chain's state is essential; only green and yellow chains make up the “Superchain.” These chains share security, governance, and values under the OP Stack. They are on the path to full interoperability and are “built on the Superchain.” Gray chains remain an essential part of the Superchain Ecosystem as they continue contributing revenue to the Collective. They can become green (or yellow) by gradually aligning with the standard OP Stack and Security Council requirements.

Season 7 focuses on Interoperability and bringing OP-governed chains together using a shared standard. To support this, OP incentives will only go to chains on a standard, governance-approved release of the OP Stack that have opted into the Security Council (or are on track).
