DAOs are growing 🍀

With over 3.3M active participants and $35B in treasury assets, DAOs are rewriting the playbook for decentralized coordination.

But their rise has also been marked by challenges, and many have failed to reach their potential.

Key findings on why DAOs fail:

✺ No product-market fit: 40% of failures stemmed from a lack of value in offerings.

✺ Exploits: 30% of catastrophic failures were due to hacks or bugs.

✺ Governance issues: 13% of failures due to Voter apathy & Stakeholder misalignment

One important takeaway: Governance scandals (like lawsuits or leadership issues) are far more likely to end a DAO than poor onchain voting systems.

Strong leadership and strategic alignment matter as much, if not more, than token-based voter participation. 🎯

✺ Diversify treasury holdings beyond OP tokens to reduce risk.

These improvements can drive sustainable growth, but achieving functional decentralization requires more focus on the social and economic layers.
