When I started a company, I had this belief that I would have to make these giant life sacrifices like skipping holidays and friend's weddings. In the 3 years working on company, I have only had to skip 1 thing and I didn't want to do it in the first place. Starting a company is demanding, but you also have a lot of control of your time. You're more likely to have to skip major events working in banking or private equity where someone else controls your time.
