NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory scientists used computer models to generate a four-day, time-lapse view of the sun's changing magnetic field. The field lines are more concentrated in regions more magnetically intense.

The interplanetary magnetic field is much stronger than the components of the Sun's dipole magnetic field. The dipole magnetic field of 50 to 400 microtesla of the sun (in the spheroid) decreases by the power of three distances and reaches 0.1 nanotesla near the earth.
