If someone attempts to manipulate the ledger, the hash of the manipulated ledger will be inconsistent with the hash recorded on all other nodes' copies of the ledger. Therefore, the hash of the block can be used as an anti-counterfeiting protection and can be used to check the authenticity of transactions on the ledger.
