soooo good! what's your process to do this? do you start from one end of the pipe and build the 3d structure as you go? or sketch the entire 3d structure in a line first then make the cubes around it?

Better show you! That’s basically it, I just start with a cube and freestyle intuitively.

I draw very lightly and I erase a lot, once I get what I want, I redraw everything pressing harder. No ruler involved. 

Sometimes I redraw with ink and erase the pencil construction lines
