The baby carriage was invented by William Kent.He designed it for the children of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire. It was a child's version of a horse-drawn carriage.These early carriages were low to the ground,allowing them to be pulled by a goat,dog or pony.Later designs replaced animal pulling with handles for parents.
