Orbiter

In the early 2010s the web was pushing towards hegemonic server-based solutions, creating walled gardens that were the antithesis of what the web was meant to be. Netlify, in its original mission, wanted to fix that. They created the term JAMstack (JavaScript, APIs, Markup) and they pushed for a decoupling of the backend and the frontend. This worked well and spawned a ton of creativity. Many SSGs probably wouldn’t exist today without this push. Unfortunately, we’ve come full circle and are trending toward those same walled garden solutions. Netlify is too big and is too focused on enterprise expansion to rescue us this time, but Orbiter is not.
