On January 13, Sony (TYO:6758) launched its own second-tier network of the Ethereum blockchain called Soneium.
Soneium was created by a subsidiary of Sony Block Solutions Labs, having tested its development in August 2024 and processed about 47 million transactions made by 14 million users in four months. Soneium is a second-level solution based on the existing Ethereum blockchain, acting as the first level. Soneium processes data and thus solves the problems associated with slow information processing speed and high commission in the first-level network.
Using the OP Stack module developed by the Optimism Foundation, we are creating a scalable, compatible with the Ethereum blockchain and programmer—friendly network, Sony said in a press release.
