Go to an event in Dubai. It starts, and it’s boring: trying to find a taxi. I tried Careem and Uber. It took an hour to finally get a ride. Then the Careem driver asked me to cancel because of traffic, so I’d pay a 40 AED fee. I say no and wait. He fakes the arrival and doesn’t answer calls or messages. I get charged the fee because I didn’t enter the ride. Chat with support, and get the refund. Go outside the hotel. A fake taxi offers the ride for 150 AED. Nope. (Careem was 35, Uber 53.) Check Udrive. The nearest car is a 30-minute walk. F**k it. Step outside into the freshness of Dubai. Write this post while walking through the best part of the city. Why? Because @crisnochris got me a ticket to the event, and I’m not a pussy who cancels last minute. P.S. The Udrive car had no brakes, but I made it to the event safely. (All the times are real)
