brainstorming on alternative NFT monetisation methods. How does recurring payment for NFT membership club sound?

Have you looked into superfluid.finance ? I think one of their integrated partners do this.

Definitely, though having to wrap a token for payment isn't ideal (adds an additional layer of risk and abstraction).

We are looking at doing time-based recharge of NFT (with expiry trait) that would enable this. Sort of like unlock protocol but with recurring pay embedded

Myself (and others I know) have had a very bad UX with Unlock Protocol. We all had to use it for a popular side event during ETHLisbon - Multiple RPC failures, unrecognised account wallets, unexpected UI freezes...  definitely was not enjoyable. 

If you do look into their product, please consider the above!
