Seven months on, Basenames continue to enhance accessibility and branding on @base, with over 700k Basenames minted so far. This year alone, 36,455 new Basenames have been registered. Since launch, users have collectively spent 298ETH acquiring them. One standout— the Basename 'joaquiniglesias' has been secured for an incredible 201 years, a bold signal of confidence and long-term speculation within the ecosystem. Want to know more? I've created a @dune.eth dashboard exploring various metrics on #Basenames since launch! 🔗 : https://dune.com/feyikemi/basenames

The combination of 1. Smart contract composability. 2. Permissionless-ness. 3. Censorship resistance. Anyone can run a node. Anyone can deploy a contract and instantly reach a global user base.

the "bitcoin uses a lot of energy" critique is so misinformed traditional money is backed by energy too, you just don't see it a dollar is worth a dollar because if someone tries to counterfeit a dollar they get thrown in a prison by guys with guns that's a gigantic energy overhead, what is the cost of having to monitor and stop all counterfeiting of all fiat money everywhere in the world at all times? mining covers that overhead in Bitcoin you replace guys with guns with clever cryptography + provable power expenditure to have a system of reliable money seems like a fair trade off, no?

can barely get a cast in during the day (is this what locked in feels like?) so sharing some random late night observations on my mind: - people who have opinions > people who don't have opinions, even if their opinions differ from my own - current trend cycles are exhausting, both in crypto but even more so outside of crypto; gen Z is starting to rebel against micro trends and instead invest in developing and defining their own, more durable personal style. i am HERE for this. - Lena Dunham just launched a Substack, sigh. i was so excited when Pamela Anderson did it, so why does this one bore me? - Sporty and Rich founder Emily Oderg is using OnlyFans (yes!! OF!!) as a marketing channel because she believes that's where lifestyle campaigns (getting flagged on instagram) will live. hmm. - dating shift of online-to-offline; curated matchmaking platforms are in hot demand again. people want to feel something (like really feel) IRL again.

New pod with the one & only Ben Wilson is live. Ben produces one of my favorite podcasts, How to Take Over the World. "On How to Take Over the World, I help you find your heroes and learn lessons from their lives so that you can become a great leader yourself." In this episode, Ben shares: → How he became friends with Mr. Beast via the pod → His journey to becoming a Podcaster → How he makes a living as a Podcaster → His creation process & distribution strategy → His most controversial podcast episode → Lessons from history's most powerful people → His daily routine, cultural upbringing, & current obsessions Check out "Internet Empires" wherever you get your pods for the full episode. or on YT here: https://www.youtube.com/@InternetEmpiresPod And I highly recommend checking out Ben's pod too -- I've listened to the Walt Disney episode at least 7 times. Also really enjoyed his Ghengis Khan trilogy.

I've found the closest analog to these early years of crypto were the early years of social media. Discovering extremely powerful emotional responses triggered from a CRUD database was like discovering nuclear power from these tiny pellets of uranium. This echos the powerful incentivization enabled by the discovery of digital scarcity. Back in 2006-2012 you had thousands of startups of various sizes building all sorts of variations of social media. In my YC batch during this period, half the startups were working on mobile social media apps of some sort. (SoLoMo, MoLoSo, etc.). There were plenty of high concept, big raise startups that were pure narrative and crashed. There were weekend projects that ended up gaining viral traction and raising VC funding within 72 hours of launch. (Remember Yo?).

if you’re wondering whether I have high hopes for a ceasefire, the answer is no. russia has violated ceasefires countless times since 2014. and this proposed 30-day ceasefire will probably have one of the same outcomes: 1. russia doesn’t agree to a ceasefire at all. Trump blames Ukraine. 2. russia agrees, uses the pause to regroup, intensifies attacks on Ukrainians in occupied areas, then violates the ceasefire as usual. Trump blames Ukraine. 3. russia agrees, immediately launches a false flag attack to blame Ukraine for the violation, and continues attacks as usual. (Trump blames Ukraine and in this case the U.S. government will help back them with propaganda and lies, just like they do for the state of Israel, claiming that “U.S. intelligence” shows it was Ukraine.) Anyways, I always hope for good news, but I don’t think we’ll see it anytime soon. https://kyivindependent.com/neglecting-security-guarantees-trump-fast-tracking-efforts-to-persuade-ukraine-to-ceasefire-with-russia/
