Looking for recommendations for a beginner photography camera body & lens.

Looking to take a wide range of pics - but mostly outdoors/landscape/urban/etc. to start.

Ideally like… $500 for a decent setup?

definitely digital. film is cool but i don't want to be needlessly restrictive at least at this point

Film or digital ?

I have many lenses/bodies but always shoot with a 5D full frame and a 40mm lense. It’s very versatile and limiting options in terms of lenses allows you to get comfortable with a fixed setup fast. You can do the same with a 28mm wide angle and a crop lense on a cheaper body. Definitely go 2nd hand.
