This appears to be an ancient illustrated musical score, one of six remarkable parchments from Egypt, dating back to the 5th to 7th centuries C.E. The parchments seem to depict a unique form of musical notation, where the colors of the circles indicate pitch and their sizes denote duration. The writings on the parchment are in Coptic an Afro-Asian language spoken in Egypt until at least the 17th century. Astonishing!
