Only 2 weeks left until Runes protocol goes live, it will be a bloodbath: a lot of btc burned and a lot of generational wealth opportunities. But in order to participate you'll need to run your own bitcoin node with ord. Here's how you can set it up:

Any pc will do but youā€™ll need at least 700GB ssd(better to buy more bc bitcoin will balloon to 1TB+ by the end of the year). The only other important stat is how much ram your pc has: the more you have, the faster youā€™ll be able to set up a node.

1. Go to https://bitcoincore.org/en/download/ and download the latest version. Install it to your desired location.

2. Donā€™t open bitcoinq, instead open up the command line, do cd YOURBITCOINPATH/daemon and bitcoind -datadir=WHERE/YOU/WANT/TO/PUT/BLOCKS ā€“txindex and let it download blocks. You can always stop it by pressing Ctrl+C. This is the longest step by far, takes 1-3 days depending on your pc.

3. Go to https://github.com/ordinals/ord/releases and download the latest version for your OS, unpack it as a folder in your bitcoin location. 4. Next donā€™t stop bitcoind, open another command line, do cd WERE/YOU/PUT/ORD and ord ā€“index-runes server.

You should be all set, open up a third command line and create a wallet with ord wallet create and ord wallet receive, write down mnemonics and address. You can even inscribe something, check out docs https://docs.ordinals.com/guides/wallet.html

Keep in mind that when you decide to start your node again, youā€™ll need to do step 2 and 4 again but it will take a lot less time to let your node catch up with all the blocks that have been mined while it was offline.

There are a lot of things that you can get stuck on, it is a very much a trial and error process. Some of the more egregious ones I ran into: Prefix all the ord commands with ord ā€“cookie-file PATH/TO/.cookie if it says something about not being able to locate a cookie file.

Put --server-url http://0.0.0.0:8000/ in your ord commands if it doesnā€™t find an ord server. If you are stuck on something, just hop in ordinals discord https://discord.gg/8GCyM8Xz and search for your issue. Chances are, thereā€™s already a detailed tutorial on how to solve it.
