What's the opposition to it? That devs may just rug?

Currently snipers buy and 100% sell which is the exact same as dev rugging each and every time.

With dev buy you have the chance they rug or don't (can effect their rep for future tokens) but snipers are less likely to buy because they can be farmed like we've all been.

Obvious view is less snipers equals less volume from them, buyers couldn't care less as such large percentages of their launch don't get taken by snipers but those loving the volume fees snipers bring on every launch obviously will care 😉
