"Commuters at Churchgate Station" by Raghu Rai (1/2) I grew up outside India. One of my earliest memories of art is this picture (TBH, I don't know for sure if it was this one or one very like it) at the family doctor's office. It hung in his waiting room and I stared at it every visit.

Scene from the Gondi myth of creation by Jangarh Singh Shyam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondi_people Shyam almost single-handedly brought Gond art to the mainstream, now probably one of India's most recognisable art styles.

"Panchtatva" by S. H. Raza I haven't yet encountered a work of Raza's that I couldn't just stare at all day. If you ever have an opportunity to see one in person, don't miss out. This is one of the first of his works I saw, which is why I'm starting with it.

"Glow of Hope" by S L Haldankar Another one of those works that must really be seen in person to be appreciated. On display at the Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery in Mysore, in a light-controlled room that really brings the colour and texture of the piece to life.

"Untitled" by Ram Kumar It really is a pity to see this piece at such a small scale. It's an imposing work that must be seen in person. Sometimes on display at the CSMVS museum in Mumbai.

What is "Indian Art"? A simple question that's quite impossible to answer because Indias multitudes contain multitudes. IMO the only way to understand it is to experience it, hence this channel.
