I’d like to talk a little bit about how we got here and what comes next.
Snaps started with an idea: what if anyone could extend MetaMask? The first Snap, before they were even called Snaps, was a Cosmos add-on built in 2019, 3 years before I even joined MetaMask. Over the next few years, many folks contributed to build this unique platform that would eventually power a wide variety of use cases. When we launched the platform in September of 2023, we had about 35 Snaps in our directory for users to try!
Since then we have continued to foster an ecosystem of developers making the most popular self-custodial wallet even better with many new features. With Snaps, you can already do so much:
🔹 explore blockchains like Bitcoin, Solana, Cosmos, & Starknet
🔹 add custom multisig accounts with 2FA
🔹 get notifications from dapps
🔹 get warnings about potentially malicious transactions
🔹 interact with identity and privacy protocols
