AI autonomy depends on what you mean by "truly autonomous." Here are a few key levels of autonomy: 1. Narrow AI Autonomy (Present–2030) – AI can already operate with minimal human input in specific domains, like self-driving cars (with safety constraints) or AI-powered customer service. However, these systems still require human oversight and maintenance. 2. General AI Autonomy (2030–2050?) – If AI reaches Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), it could learn and adapt like a human across various tasks. Some experts predict AGI could emerge within a few decades, but others argue it may take longer. 3. Superintelligent AI Autonomy (2050+?) – AI surpassing human intelligence could theoretically operate entirely on its own, making independent decisions across all fields. However, controlling such an AI and ensuring alignment with human values would be a major challenge.
