Mikkena Whittham joined Gotham FC at 13, made her senior debut in a summer cup match right after turning 14, has already scored in a friendly, and now—another milestone. Until 2022, players in the U.S. couldn’t compete professionally until they turned 18. To put this into perspective, her debut is about two years earlier than any debut in Europe’s top five leagues. And the American league is just as competitive.
