“I’m not a lawyer but I’m pretty sure Donald Trump is not an eligible candidate because of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, who, as a member of Congress, or an officer of the United States, or a member of State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. The Supreme Court ruled this year that Section 3 of the 14th is not self-executing. They decided Congress would have to pass legislation declaring Trump ineligible. Let’s say Congress DID somehow get votes to pass legislation declaring Trump ineligible. Would you still need to go through the electoral objections, or would passing the legislation be enough? I think it’s the latter.” -Allison Gill

“I have warned of Vance’s connections to the neo-reactionary Dark Enlightenment movement for many months now. He’s a fascist. The guy occupies the space on the Venn diagram where the NRx, the Peter Thiel tech bros, the finance industry, and the Leonard Leo weirdos overlap. He is very dangerous. And he will soon be a heartbeat—or a 25th Amendment vote—away from the Oval Office. It’s concerning that he’s nowhere to be seen. The media should be hounding him relentlessly. But, you know, DOGE is so shiny.” -Greg OLear

This is accurate imo: “Xi is banking that Trump’s policies will alienate other countries from the United States, leading typically U.S.-friendly nations to hedge more toward China and a greater acceptance from others of Beijing’s vision for the world order.” -Sari Havren

@Matt Stoller on real WASTE in U.S. spending: The Collusion Tax: There are plenty of studies showing massive government waste, but it’s NOT in the Federal workforce. It’s in procurement, the place where government buys from the private sector, everything from pencils to software to nuclear submarines. The OECD says 1/5 of the cost is STOLEN by contractors through bid rigging, the so-called “Collusion tax.” Collusion is when contractors get together in groups and conspire to reduce their bids so that the government overpays for goods and services. According to the OECD, “The elimination of bid rigging could help reduce procurement prices by 20% or more.” If you take $750 billion, just in Federal procurement spending, that’s $150 billion a year of pure overpayment, due to this ONE form of crime. Earlier this year the Government Accountability Office published a report on fraud, showing the government loses between $233 billion to $521 billion on fraud.”

Just what I thought would happen with sicko Musk/extremists cabal - this is not okay! “The chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Patty Murray (D-WA), said she would stay in Washington, D.C., through Christmas “because we’re not going to let Elon Musk run the government. Put simply, we should not let an unelected billionaire rip away research for pediatric cancer so he can get a tax cut or tear down policies that help America outcompete China because it could hurt his bottom line. We had a bipartisan deal—we should stick to it…. The American people do not want chaos or a costly government shutdown all because an unelected billionaire wants to call the shots.” @hc_richardson

Plutocracy: A society governed by an elite ruling class whose power derives from their wealth. A corrupt form of government. Trump has assembled a team of obscenely wealthy, mostly unqualified loyalists who bought positions with donations.

“A viral Bluesky thread introduced tens of thousands around the world to a first glimpse of a forthcoming biography of Elon Musk. Here in a single essay is some of what the world just learned.” 1. Elon Musk may be an unelected plutocrat, but in six weeks he’ll become co-President of the United States. Unfortunately, many people around the world are only just now beginning to research who Musk really is—not the mythos he spent decades carefully weaving about himself like a cloak, but the hard realities that define the actual man. Most of what people think they know about Elon Musk is manifestly false. This essay, written by an Elon Musk biographer and based on OSINT research, reveals the truth—or at least a significant part of it. Rest assured that none of what remains is any better. As you will soon see, the parallels between the lives of Trump and Musk are jarring. https://open.substack.com/pub/sethabramson/p/the-truth-about-musk-from-his-biographer?r=9r5ij&utm_medium=ios
