On 18 May 1974, India conducted its first nuclear bomb test, codenamed as “Operation Happy Krishna”. It was an underground shaft test of 12 kilotons of TNT equivalent. India became the sixth nation to explode an atomic bomb, marking a significant development in nuclear technology.
