Iโve been trying to figure out how to generate provably random numbers on the Base network without relying on Chainlinkโs VRF2 service, which is quite expensive (about $4 per request). For now, Iโm considering using a secure off-chain server that takes the block hash, timestamp, and user address, then hashes that together with a random number generated off-chain. The result would be sent back to the smart contract through an API.
Obviously, this isnโt fully decentralized, but it feels like a workable solution for the time being.
My main question, though, is about the potential future decentralization of Base. Do you think we could eventually create an oracle service strictly for Base using its nodes? Given the low gas fees, I believe setting up a dedicated system like this might be possible and cost-effective.
Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! 1 reply
