At some point in ~2020, Coinbase changed their mission from "create an open financial system" to "increase economic freedom" for the world

I support this change, the former feels anachronistic to when crypto main use case was just about permissionlessly sending money/storing uncensorable money

Inside baseball: economic freedom was always the goal, but when we were doing the vision / mission update in 2016, felt like it was too radical. Times have changed. :)
