What I don't understand is if everything is based on Ethereum why do we need warps?

Many reasons:

Farcaster is not fully onchain, otherwise it would be costly (It is sufficiently decentralized).

Warps are great for smooth transactions, without the need to pay gas once you are in Warpcast. They are also amazing to interact across chains (L2s and Solana is coming soon).
