On July 14, 1911, a pleasure train left the railway station in the Italian capital. On board were 106 wealthy tourists who wanted to relax and explore local attractions. For some time everything went according to plan: the train moved along the rails, sun-drenched Italian landscapes and ancient buildings flew past. Then the train began to approach a long tunnel. The train drove there and disappeared without a trace. Neither the alarmed railway workers nor the search teams found any traces of the train. The only “find” was two scared to death passengers of the missing train, who jumped out while moving. Their testimony was shocking: as they approached the tunnel, the air on the street and inside the cars became thick and white. After the incident, the Italian railway services decided to close the entrances to the tunnel, and during the war its arches were collapsed by a dropped bomb.
