Anyone have experience with doing giant/dead sets of exercise (consecutive set of 50 reps with no rest)? Latest program my trainer gave me incorporates a few of these for each weight training day. Curious if there are any specific benefits of these over your more normal 3x + rest routines.

If your goal is to build muscle, there is no benefit over a traditional set/rep scheme. You will be limited by cardio, your ability to keep proper form, and the mental strain of a 50 rep set. Trainers love nonsense like this. It feels very hard, but it's actually not very productive.

We've followed a pretty formulaic progression so far so I wonder if this is more just breaking things up to keep things interesting. There's a combination of these mega-sets and pushing a lot more toward 5 rep maxes this cycle.
