Hi everyone ✌ Today let's talk about the most famous and elderly tattoo artist in the world.
Apo Wang-Od, Maria Oggi - born on February 17, 1917.
Wang-Od was born and lives in the Batbut tribe of the Kalinga people in Kalinga province to a mambabatok (master of traditional Batok tattoos) family in the village of Baskalan.
At the age of 15, Wang-Od started Batok tattooing, the art of traditional tattoos of her people was taught to her by her father.
In 2017, Wang-Od was nominated for the Philippine National Living Treasures Award.
In 2018, the Philippine National Commission on Culture and the Arts awarded Wang-Od the honorary Harai Award.
In April 2023, at the age of 106, Wang-Od's photo appeared on the cover of the Philippine issue of Vogue magazine. The issue featured an article about her and her student Grace Palikas. Wang-Od became known as "the oldest model on the cover of Vogue".
