My brother has grown for the last couple of years but a heavy rain got it moldy at the very end last year, was so sad. Poor Gary (it was Gary Payton strain). One day maybe id try but with two young kids its too difficult.

I would recommend that he gives some "fast flowering" or "autoflowering" strains a shot. The fast flowering plants were bred to finish late august/1st week of sept to avoid any late season weather! I have a problem with that here too, if we get late season rain I have to build plants covers. it wont be an issue in the desert tho haha.
