Salvatore Maranzano was an Italian mobster and a prominent crime leader in the United States during the early 20th century. Born on August 31, 1886, in Sicily, he is known as one of the founders of the American Mafia. After arriving in the U.S. in the early 1920s, he quickly gained influence in organized crime in New York and collaborated with other crime leaders like Vito Genovese and Lucky Luciano. In 1931, he established the "Mafia Congress" to organize mob activities, but he was killed by Lucky Genovese that same year, marking the end of his power in the American Mafia.
