Ariobarzanes was one of the Iranian commanders and princes of the Achaemenid period who participated in important wars. He is especially famous for his brave resistance against Alexander the Great at the Battle of the Pars Strait (a strait near the area known today as the Vineyard Strait). This battle was one of the last resistances of the Achaemenids against Alexander's forces.

In this battle, Ario Berzen with a small number of his soldiers was able to stop Alexander's huge army for a short time, but finally he was defeated due to treachery and unequal forces and he himself died. He is known in the history of Iran as a symbol of courage and loyalty to the country.
