The Stone Mask was originally created by an ancient civilization, which had the ability to turn the wearer into a vampire by smearing blood on it and causing spires to jut out from it that would penetrate the wearer's cranium and puncture specific parts of the human mind to allow them to gain superhuman abilities and attributes akin to a vampire. One mask, recovered from South America, was found by Mary Joestar and brought back to London in the 19th century where it would eventually fall to her husband, George Joestar I, after she passed away.
