What is your reasoning for this unpopular opinion?

an eth L2 privacy pool would need centralized sequencers a btc zk sidechain has worse problems. drivechain unlikely to be implemented zcash moving to pos (less sell pressure), elastic subnet on avalanche, halving coming up, etc. currently just above atl. staying listed on cex privacy in general has been undervalued.

what's the issue with sequencers if they are trustless and can be bypassed during censorship?

a centralized L2 is more susceptible to regulatory pressure. same thing as a smart contract like tc a decentralized L1, especially with some legal precedent to operate, like zcash, is much harder to stomp out.

Sure, but why isn't it a decentralized L2? Having a primary or shared sequencer that is trustless (can't lie) and can be bypassed (in case of censorship or regulatory pressure) does not make it strictly centralized, right?

im by no means an expert, but the biggest problems with L2s seem to be centralized sequencers and fragmented liquidity. to your point, zkps actually help with mev, but centralized infra can be easily shut down frag liq = smaller anon sets. both of these problems are compounded when considering privacy

"Decentralized" is not a binary, so it's important to talk about these nuances. The goal is to build a system that can't lie and can't be censored, and L2 roadmap designs satisfy that. Shared sequencers fix the fragmented liquidity issue (can make atomic cross rollup transactions).

i agree it will happen, and decentralization is a spectrum, etc., but if decentralized sequencers are a challenge for transparent L2s, zk is more complex. who knows when it will be feasible... a centralized entity running said sequencers are more easily sanctioned/shut down. same as a smart contract like tornado cash.
