Money is an energy that shapes our society, but there are others. Let's talk about Trust. Like quantities of money, we can have *qualities* of trust. While low quality trust is often broken, high quality trust can be used as a robust foundation for the future. Quality of trust also shapes our society, and it's rapidly changing. Our social movements and institutions are responding to the shifting qualities of trust. We *crave* more high quality trust as we become burned out from low quality trust. We want to make reliable commitments long into the future. We want to plant trees in whose shade we will not get to sit while being assured that they will be allowed to grow past tomorrow. Some technologies enable us to increase our quality of trust, while others can erode it. We can write to improve understanding, or to sow confusion. For the health of society, quality of trust can be even more important than quantity of money. Let's increase the quality of trust in our lives.

1. On a social/algorithm level, we need to stop rewarding the creation of confusion and erosion of trust, like outrage farming. From an objective observer, it would appear that this is the thing our society values most highly rn and that's so incredibly toxic. 2. On a procedural level, we need to continue replacing unreliable intermediaries with cryptographically verifiable systems whenever possible (or removing them altogether). These things compound--multiple unreliable links in a chain are dramatically worse than one. Any unreliable component should be tightly bound in power/consequence. 3. On a technology level, we need to be mindful about what we're building. A lot of people are terrified that AI will further erode trust, justifiably. Crypto "pvp casino games" can erode trust too. Realistically this is a race between positive and negative use cases eating up the oxygen of an ecosystem. More trust increasing technology use cases sooner!

1. Is this actually possible? Humans are attracted to outrage/drama/conflict so it’s a tricky problem to mitigate this 2. The product experience needs to be better than existing options or as good at a bare minimum with messsging around why it’s better to use alternative systems. The alternatives are almost always subpar experiences and we must change that 3. Agreed. We need to find ways to build trust and humanity with technology which i think should be done by entangling technology with everyday life it a value additive way
