What is the valuable asset that a decentralized social network is securing?

In Ethereum, it's primarily ether. What's the ether of social networks?

A doodler and computerer. I like permissive/permissionless open source, smart contracts, p2p systems, room-scale VR, and NixOS.

Provenance of ideas. In the emerging idea economy, having cryptographic lineage to where those ideas came from is going to be increasingly relevant and valuable.

Not all decentralized networks secure something. The concept of "security" and "security budget" in the concept you mention comes mostly from the blockchain nature of Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.

But if you have to think of "security" as a response to an attack vector, then the attack vectors Farcaster "secures" against, are deplatforming and access (API).
