I think the argument is that the barrier to territorial war is much lower without having trade war as a buffer. Maybe without trade agreements (and the consequential reorganization of the economies around them), we'd already be living in the 51st territory.

To explain my remark: Occupy was an anti-globalist movement, who blamed wallstreet for their woes.  

Trump’s actions are anti-globalist, but unlike Occupy, Trump is pro-wallstreet.  So you could say that MAGA channeled that Occupy emotion into a pro-wallstreet movement.
