Question: Is there some path down the future to abstract USDC out and support other tokens? (E.g. things more relevant in local economies outside of the US.)

I suspect there would be, but part of me is afraid of getting too locked into a USDC-centric future.

I imagine in the EU people would prefer EURC or similar.

In Canada, maybe QCAD? But I'm not sure there's any reputable Canadian stablecoin on Base yet. USDC will suffice for now.

But in an ideal world, swaps can also be abstracted.
