Behaviour: Yawning

Yawning is one of the subtle yet significant behaviours observed in orangutans. While it may seem like a simple reflex, it plays a role in regulating alertness, relieving tension, or even facilitating social communication in primates. Orangutans, being solitary and often reserved in their actions, rarely display such open and expressive gestures in the wild—making a yawn a noteworthy moment for observers and researchers alike.
