"One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of my favorite book. It is a story spanning multiple generations of a family living in a isolated town of Macondo and explores themes of love, loss, time, and the cyclical nature of history through magical realism. there is one part where the whole town gets infected by an insomnia plague. the people are initially happy. they can get more done in a day now. but with time they start losing their memory. to solve this, they start putting labels on everything, hoping to preserve their collective memory. This provides a temporary solution, but they realize that if they forget how to read, the labels will become meaningless. the times we live in. I often think about this. p.s. the town is eventually rescued by arrival of someone who brings in a cure.
