And in some cases have *become* friends because they stuck around early on when no one else cared. We've spent years with this people socializing on this social network. :)

Don't conflate something that's earned / built with cronyism.

Dan and I were high school best friends, growing up in the small New England town of Capeside, Massachusetts. Dan was an introspective aspiring filmmaker while I was hotheaded, irresponsible and directionless. We had many ups and downs, mostly related to Joey Potter but I'll never forget what he used to say to me: 'I don't want to wait for our lives to be over.'

Dan and I were also classmates in college, and we were really close in our Taiwanese campus. I remember we secretly used the university’s electricity in the research lab to mine Bitcoin and ended up making a nice profit.
