I'm using my profile to talk about medical conditions and preventions. Today I'm talking about a very common and deadly disease: Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease characterized by the formation of scars (fibrosis) in the liver tissue, resulting from continuous damage to the organ. This damage can be caused by various factors, such as excessive alcohol consumption, hepatitis B and C, autoimmune diseases, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis), and exposure to toxins.

As the liver is damaged, its healthy tissue is replaced by scar tissue, impairing the organ’s function. Cirrhosis can progress silently for years until its symptoms, such as fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), abdominal swelling, weight loss, and mental confusion, become apparent. When liver function is severely compromised, the disease can progress to liver failure.

There is no cure for cirrhosis, but treatment can include managing the underlying cause, such as stopping alcohol consumption or treating hepatitis. In advanced cases, a liver transplant may be necessary. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are essential to slow the progression of the disease. Prevent and take care.
