art blocks is a great example. bunch of retired VCs gambling on tokens. generative art as a medium wouldn’t be remotely what it is now without it. many artists now can be a full time artist, do what they love, & have an audience due to the downstream effects of gambling on art tokens.

not at all to throw shade. This is a compliment. is gambling good? not sure, but it’s inevitable is art blocks “better” than traditional art galleries? (ie gagosian) I’d argue yes thoughts? @phil @seth

There is a long history of speculation in art. This is what made gallerists like Duveen, Castelli and Gagosian so influential (and wealthy) as market makers. But it never became “gambling culture” until art moved onto the blockchain and we all had access to the same real-time price discovery.
