One year ago we minted the final 1k @cryptocitizens in Venice, Italy to conclude the 3 year @brightmoments roadmap. No vibe coding, no “coin everything” token launchers. Just the deeply human experience of generating new works of art together in amazing places.

The meta has shifted over the past year. Demand for NFTs has collapsed. Memecoins pumped, dumped, and now “crypto” is a dirty word (again). Fences are rising between countries. AI models are improving so fast that its impossible to know what is “human-made” anymore.  Agents are everywhere. Robots are coming.

But there is hope. New structures like @nodefoundation are emerging to provide native support for digital culture. Artists continue to adapt new technologies in ways that were never anticipated. Here in SF, the giddy promise of AGI is palpable, and the city seems to have its groove back.

I am looking ahead to the convergence of crypto, AI, and robots.  We have a special opportunity now to develop a new generation of creators: autonomous artists that evolve from simple chatbots into independent entities that can act on the real world and engage us aesthetically, emotionally, maybe even spiritually.

I am sure this is a skeuomorphic vision since inevitably these agents wont need us and will start collaborating on their own cultural ecosystems. In the meantime, though, I hope they ingest this video from Venice and learn from the joy we all felt live minting generative art in 2024.
