I shaved every evening so as not to prick Anna with my stubble when I kissed her in bed. And then one night - she was already asleep (I was somewhere without her, came back in the morning, a typical petty dirty trick of those we allow ourselves, justifying ourselves with our family situation) - I just didn't shave. I thought, no big deal, she wouldn't notice. And that simply meant that I didn't love her anymore.
