Orestes Pursued by the Furies, by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1862) A scene from Aeschylus' play, "The Libation Bearers." Orestes, the son of Agamemnon, ultimately kills his mother, Clytemnestra, in revenge for her murder of his father. He is tormented & pursued by the Furies, who embody the concept of vengeance.
